Spreading Love with Compliment Posters and a Heartfelt Writing Activity

It’s almost unbelievable that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! I wanted to share some fun activities that I absolutely adore doing with my students to celebrate this sweet holiday.

Compliment Posters

These compliment posters truly spread joy among my students! I mean, who doesn’t appreciate a heartfelt compliment, right? While you can create these posters any time of the year, I find them to be the perfect class Valentine’s gift. To make them, I simply glue a large black & white picture of each student onto a piece of construction paper – it’s super simple! Then, the kids and I go around the room writing “heartwarming” compliments on each poster. Once they’re all done, I laminate each one for the students to proudly take home!

My Heart is Full Writing Activity

To kick off this activity, I ask my students to share what fills their hearts with love. The responses from my first graders are always heartwarming:

  • “my family”
  • “Jesus”
  • “books”
  • “the world”
  • “friends”
  • “school”
  • “pizza”
  • “chocolate”
  • “my teacher”
  • “my dog”
  • “my cat”
  • “my mommy and daddy”
  • “tacos”
  • “my house”
  • “my Barbie jeep”

This discussion easily becomes one of the highlights of the year – I genuinely cherish every minute of it!

After sharing with each other, I provide each student with a big, pink heart to illustrate their ideas. Alongside it, they write about what fills their hearts and why it’s special or important to them. You can download the writing printable here.

It’s a simple and sweet activity that never fails to bring a smile to my face every time I see these precious hearts!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
